Splinter Cell: Blacklist lacks offline co-op on Wii U

Splinter Cell: Blacklist will not feature offline co-op play on Wii U, Ubisoft has confirmed.

Yet another high-profile multi-platform release is losing a key feature on Wii U. The Nintendo home console version of Splinter Cell: Blacklist will lack offline co-op play, relegating the mode to online-only.

"In order to ship at the same time as the other consoles, we unfortunately weren't able to delve into this feature," producer Liu Jun told Nintendo Life (via Eurogamer). "But we think Nintendo gamers will be really excited to get the game at the same time as other consoles."

Online play will work similarly to the other consoles, including co-op chat supported through the GamePad, and downloadable content is planned to hit Wii U just like the other consoles as well. It's an odd omission for the console seemingly most targeted at "couch co-op," but as we've seen recently, developers are tending to cut Wii U features before other platforms.

Developers axe features for the Wii U version. Developers wonder why sales of the the Wii U version are low. Rinse. Repeat.

Yeah, pretty much. As a Nintendo fanboy (and former Wii U developer), this drives me crazy.

My Mom asked if she could borrow my Wii-U because they were having relatives with kids visiting and I told her I only had the Wii. She thought the Wii U was like a Wii with an upgraded OS like a PC with Windows 7 from Vista.

yah Nintendo has done a horrible job of marketing this... my friend who owns a Wii went and bought a WiiU game thinking it would work on his Wii system.

It's depressing to see the Wii U get this kind of second-class treatment especially when, as the article says, the Wii U is the system most built around local multiplayer in the first place.

Really the only hope of the Wii U breaking out of this vicious cycle of low sales and shoddy game support is for Nintendo's first party efforts to drum up enough interest in the system that 3rd parties are motivated to change their tack.

And while I'm confident that Wind Waker HD, Super Mario 3D World, DK Tropical Freeze, MK8, etc. will all be great games, I'm just not sure if any of them have the kind of got-to-have-it mainstream appeal that will win over those who are currently apathetic towards Nintendo's system.

Still, the 3DS was in this same situation and they turned it around, so there's hope.

With the Wii U selling as is, I expect that Splinter Cell will sell at around Disneys Planes sells. Won't touch Pikmin 3 or Sonic Lost Worlds sales cus Splinter Cell was great, what like 10 years ago. Why put in the effort when they know the game will sell like crap on the Eii U.

The Wii U has been out for sale less than the development time of most the games that are on it. The new Splinter Cell started development sometime in 2010. Well before any knowledge we have about it now existed.

Maybe they will add the feature in a patch. Meantime, I'll be getting the game on the WiiU regardless. I love that damn pad and whatever games I cab get for the WiiU, I will get them. Even though I'm buying a PS4, Pikmin 3 is off the hook and it makes excellent use of the pad. I cant see myself playing it any other way.
