Weekend Confirmed 176 - Shadowrun Returns, Bioshock Infinite

By Ozzie Mejia, Aug 02, 2013 3:00pm PDT

This week's Weeeknd Confirmed opens with host Garnett Lee welcoming in "Indie" Jeff Mattas and Nikole Zivalich to briefly discuss Nintendo's recent financials and where the company goes from here. Discussion turns to Shadowrun Returns and Bioshock Infinite's newly-announced DLC offerings. And in the second hour, it's the return of the king. The newly-engaged Jeff Cannata returns from the land of kangaroos and wallabies to tell tales of his time in Australia and go right back to loving to love things. The four-person crew takes a quick look at the state of gaming journalism before sending you into the weekend with a new cornucopia of Finishing Moves.

  • First off just wanted to say I loved the show. One thing bothered me, though.

I listen to a lot of gaming podcasts, and this one delves into social issues within the industry quite a bit. I think that it's great, because sweeping them under the rug doesn't fix them at all. What bothered me is the issue of sexism in gaming, which this show, and Garnett in particular, was swept under the rug this episode.

I feel it is incredibly hypocritical to pick and choose when sexism is ok. There have been many conversations on the show where the crew talks about how sexist and offensive material in gaming should be done away with, yet when faced with something that is CLEARLY sexist and offensive, (Dragons Crown) we're told that if it offends us, we just shouldn't partake.

I've never commented before on any thread for any podcast I've listened to. This hypocrisy bothered me so much, however, I had to. If you're going to stand up against sexism, do it 100% of the time, not just when it's convenient for you.

In short, the Dragons Crown discussion was severely disappointing.
