Quake3 & Cheaters

This was suspected but now AdminCentral has gotten confirmation that when the Quake3 mission pack is released there will be an update released for vanilla Quake3 as well re-working the pure stuff which should make things difficult for cheaters.

It took about 3 months to code around it last time. And the new stuff will probably take a bit longer. It is not ( or should not ) just be a matter of sitting down for 15 minutes and coding around it. It is impossible to provide a perfect solution, but we can continually update the security measures as necessary.
Cheaters are about as low and scummy as they come.

  • The problem with that autofire bot is that its so hard to detect. I remember in q2 if someone was using a bot it was simple to tell. All you had to do was spectate through there eye's and you could see how jerky there crosshair would get. This one in q3 only fires when you move your crosshair over someone. So its not really aiming for you, but its firing for you at the perfect time. So if your spectating someone using it, it appears as if they are really good. I know there are people that good, but now I cant be sure who the real deals are anymore. I'm talking bout people with aliases on public servers not the "Pros" I don't think any of them cheat. That's why I hope this update helps this lame situation.












  • I've only had one instance in Q3 where I thought someone was cheating.

    I was playing Q3 CTF & doing well. I new player joined the server, & we fought a few times (I was on D). I won most (all but 1) of the few battles we had, and was pretty pleased. The map changed & we started again. Suddenly this guy could not miss. If he saw me, I died. Usually from a rail. A coupla times he hit me with a rail twice while we were both in mid air... In the next 3 levels, I managed to kill him 1 time. He never missed. I did not call him a cheater, I had not heard of the autofire proxy at that time, but I was certainly suspicious that something was up... I congratulated him "GG" after each match & he just giggled back "hehe, you're trying!". I still don't know that he was cheating, & that is the worst part of the whole encounter... :/

  • Why so many whiners? Who cares if someone is cheating? If it makes them feel special, so be it. Personally (after many many hours of Quake and q2) I have only been convinced of crossing paths with one cheater. He seemed to shoot the railgun out his ass at everyone...weird. I don't know that cheating is such a big problem, but people accusing people of running bots has certainly become annoying. I see too many people cry "bot!!!" just because they get beat. I have a 300 ping for christ's sake and have had idiotic lpb's accuse me of cheating because I put the smack down. I'm not bragging, my skills are perhaps only slightly above average at best, but everyone seems to forget that it's only a game...if someone bugs you just go find another server or go have a beer and relax for a while...it's just not that important of an issue.






  • Can you believe after this post, I got an email from the actual maker of one of the bots syx66.. Here is what he thinks.. I can't believe he actually believes this stuff..


    autoaim/fire bots are no threat to real servers that run good mods like
    q3comp and osp, but its true that pure crack should be fixed and disabled. things you -should- ask id about in first place is r_shownormals which is most easiest to use (bind space toggle r_shownormals) and probably worst cheat of all over net. also with sound/model routines/checks i think that people should be able to use their own things like black sky, see through console, no chat sound (argh so annoying), and little tweaks such as that. they were always there in fps games and they should always be part of the game. cvars isnt enough. dont tell me to ask admins to put the paks on their servers, i wont email like my fav 30 servers with little paks.

    it does -not- take 3 months to code a protection, but i can assure you fixes for each cheat out there can be done within a day through the game source. so try to encourage id in dedicating a bit more time for fixes instead of saying "good work" because they will release some fix after 6 months of knowing about it.
