  • re: the Matrix and Fight club

The Matrix was a much better movie than Fight Club. I notice that the more intelligent people are, the more they tend to see what a good movie the Matrix was. I think it exposes more truth about the nature of reality than Fight Club does.

IMO, the special effects almost did the Matrix a disservice. People are to busy watching the eye candy to get the deeper messages (of which there are several) in the movie. The Matrix is one of the few movies I have seen in a while that works on more than one level.

I do admit that I thought Fight Club was good. I just don't think that it is the super duper kick ass movie that everyone says it is. It seems to be one of those movies that ties into the disenfranchisement that people (especially adolescent and college age males) are feeling in todays society.

Unfortunately, neither of these movies seems to have made much of an impact. The people that rave about Fight Club are the same people that are avid consumers who are sleeping their way through life. And most people don't even get the Matrix.

A Fight Club sequel would surely suck hard. More then likely the Matrix sequels will as well. The problem with the Matrix sequels is that they will prolly be forced to make the Most! Kick! Ass! Scenes! Ever! at the expense of a real plot with a good theme and message behind it. And if they do decide to have a good story, most of the people who saw the Matrix will be dissapointed because they didn't have more kung fu fighting.

Fight Club's plot was overly simplistic to the point of being stupid.

The movie had great appeal to 14 yr-old boys who are grasping for a definition of masculinity... but to everybody else the movie is insulting to the intellect and filled with gratuitous violence. Plus, most people aren't into pain... this is a serious flaw.

I play Quake and I appreciate gratuitous violence... the average movie-goer doesn't like pointless graphic violence unless there is a real point behind it and there is no point to the Fight Club's violence except that one crazy dude convinces a bunch of losers to beat each other up... maybe somebody can point out the deep dark meaning behind this movie if I am missing the real point?

I can't explain it any simpler than this. If you think the movie flopped because it was so deep or something you are sadly mistaken.
