Add $50 or more to get a promotional code for $5. Add $100 or more to get a promotional code for $10. You don't have to buy anything, but you simply need to add funds to your digital wallet.

You'll get an email with a promotional code on August 2, which Nintendo points out is "just in time for the Pikmin 3 release on August 4." So, if you plan on buying any upcoming Wii U games digitally, this promo may help make it a bit cheaper to do.

Why don't they just discount the games 10% and cut out the unnecessary step?

So, if you have the deluxe promotion deal that means for every 50 dollars spent you actually get $10. Sweet!
