Nvidia Shield coming July 31

Nvidia Shield is finally coming out at the end of the month.

Nvidia pushed its Shield console to July just days before it was originally supposed to hit. At the time, Nvidia said it won't release their Android device "until it's fully up to the exacting standards that Nvidia's known for," blaming the delay on "a third-party mechanical component."

For the uninitiated, Shield is a mini console that combines a Xbox 360-style controller with a 5-inch, 720p, multi-touch, flip-up screen. It's powered by Nvidia's Tegra 4 mobile CPU/GPU combo with 2GB of RAM and the Jelly Bean version of Google's Android OS. While significantly more powerful than Ouya, it also costs significantly more: $299.

According to Kotaku, the console is now set for July 31st. Talk about releasing about the last minute possible before having to announce another last-minute delay.

I'm not so sure about that.

If the PC streaming feature works well post-beta, that may end up being their killer feature.

5 inch screen to play fps shooters. Its as big as the vita screen and way too small to see anything. Plus you need one of those nvidia streaming servers and on top of that all games ported from consoles will be based on amd cards and most pc games use keyboard and mouse = Nvidia what were you thinking?

You do not need an nvidia streaming server to stream it to the TV. You need a Kepler graphics card in your PC. And any game that is released on PC that was a console port almost always has controller support.

If you don't like the product, that's one thing. If you are regurgitating false information and a lack of understanding as to how the product and games work, that is an entirely different thing.

They showed way back in Jan. or Feb. that you needed that big ol server rack. If what you are saying is true, then they got their PR message all messed up cus I swear you needed that server.

And lets say you play a PC fps multiplayer where other PC users are using a keyboard and mouse, you gonna get your butt beat cus controllers cant hang with mouse/keyboard.

That's the main feature that has me interested. It's biggest issue will be the combination of the price and streaming requirement, GTX 650 or greater. I suspect they will have nvidia shield/ video card combo deals once the streaming gets out of beta.

IMO they should open the floodgates and let any game be streamed regardless of how well it does or does not work. Obviously it would need a good button & macro assignment software on the controller to set it up for games that have no controller support.

I used to play WoW on my PS3 controller for solo questing and it actually worked quite well. If I recall I had it set up so I had access to 20+ skills. ie: L1 + button, R2 + button, combinations.
