Sony Santa Monica's God of War: Ascension team is finally moving onto a new non-God of War project. And, the mystery unannounced game has a writer: Michael Angeli, best known for his work on Battlestar Galactica, Caprica, and Dark Angel.

Speaking at a panel at San Diego Comic-Con today, Angeli said that the Ascension team is working on a new game outside of the God of War IP. According to Polygon, he's been writing on the game for the past two and a half years.

Ascension didn't fare particularly well at retail, with our review calling it a step back for the franchise. Studio director Shannon Studstill admitted that "business reasons" prevented the team from moving past the God of War series--but with a new console generation on the horizon, it seems like prime time for a talented team to flex their muscle on a new franchise.
