Because buying an MMORPG without having played it is a baffling and awful idea, publisher Trion Worlds has launched a three-day trial for the PC edition of the TV tie-in MMO Defiance.

Go sign up to get into the trial, but do be aware that your 72 hours will start as soon as you've registered so you'll want to do that at a time when you can start downloading and playing. Yes, it is a bit unfortunate.

As you'd expect, any characters and progress you make, or microtransaction stuff you buy, will carry over into the full game if you take a shine to it and buy a copy.

Though the first season of the Defiance show on Syfy has ended, the MMO keeps on rolling. As part of its crossing-over, it's hosting a contest to put one player's character into the show.

I grabbed it in the Steam sale the other day. It's alright. Not a good sign that I got bored during the tutorial though.

To be fair, all tutorials are boring and awful and are almost solely responsible for the decline of modern video games.

I'm pretty stunned that they still bother with them. At least keep them short and part of the story.

In all fairness I was all hopped up New PC Hype so I was looking for something flashy and exciting.

its pretty much the same the entire way through. Not terrible, but not very good either.

I keep hoping this game will pick up with the shack but it seems that's a long wait for a train don't come. Maybe if the show does better next season.

I'm playing it but it is clear once the big quest content ends there is no game left.

That's quite true. I'm hoping (though not exactly expecting) that we'll get some more story content when the DLC hits...

The game really needs some hooks to keep people playing. I felt like I've exhausted anything remotely fun in the game and there's no value grinding in the hope I'll find a purple item.

The previous free play weekend was pathetic, since it wasn't even the full weekend. In fact it was just long enough for me to download the client and then be told "sorry, free trial is over." Way to piss me off guys.

This is good news, although I'm a bit pissed that the trial starts from when you make your account, not from when you log in for the first time. Knowing my luck it'll take a full day to download the damn client.

What Defiance did for me though was get me into Rift. While Defiance is fairly average Rift is excellent. Very similiar concepts but more traditional MMORPG.
