The critical buzz and anticipation seem to have done favors for The Last of Us, as Sony has announced that global sales are downright infectious. It reached 3.4 million after only three weeks on the market, according to estimates as of July 3, making it the fastest selling PlayStation 3 game of this year and exceeding Sony's sales expectations.

The third-person action-adventure has reviewed well, earning praise from our own Andrew Yoon and currently sitting at a score of 95 on Metacritic.

"These sales figures are a testament to the blockbuster quality of The Last of Us," Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida said in the announcement. "The teams at Naughty Dog are true visionaries and their storytelling capabilities are second to none, this title is an undisputed demonstration of that. SCE continues to be committed to delivering unique gameplay experiences that redefine the interactive entertainment industry and The Last of Us is a perfect example."

What a failure, selling only 3.4 million copies in less than a month. Sony should close down Naughty Dog or start ordering them to make phone games. Haven't they learned that people don't care how good a game is.

I really liked the look of this game, one of the only games to make me think about buying the console just to play it...but I'm a PC gamer and cant justify the cost just for one game.

      PLEASE PORT TO PC :-)

Not enough, I prefer mouse and keyboard for first person shooters so PC would always win on those multiplatform games.
I think a PS3 would gather dust after playing 1 or 2 games then i would go back to playing the kind of games that only work on PCs like the RTS games (Company of heroes).

Exactly. This is how RE went from a survival horror series with 1-3+Code Veronica and turned into some action-y series with the RE name starting with 4.

To be fair, 4 was good, but it was definitely the beginning of the end.

RE4 retained all the elements necessary for survival horror. It just added action. You still had to fight enemies intelligently by using resources sparingly, and the environmental set pieces added a great deal to battles. Most importantly, it kept the atmosphere tense and creepy as hell. The castle remains one of my favorite areas in any RE game.

I believe it. I finished the game last weekend. I'm an emotional guy, but I don't think I've ever been more invested in a game. The game is perfection. It had me in tears at one point, cheering at another, and shouting in anger at yet another!

I started my new game plus playthrough, and the prologue had me in tears yet again. I didn't think it would be as bad the second time, but it's almost worse because now I understand Joel so much more. Knowing why he does what he does, and knowing what's to come is almost too much.

I love this game. I'd give it 20 out of 10!

It would be a pretty wicked game on the PC. Mouse aiming would make the game crazy fun. That said, I still had a blast playing it on the PS3 even though I suck doing controller aiming. I don't think the dev will ever switch away from console exclusives, unfortunately.

That's too bad. I've been an Xbox user for a decade, but I budgeted for a PS3 specifically for this game. And it's been worth it and then some!

But that's a subjective judgment. I loved the game - you may not. I loved it, not only for innovative gameplay, but more so for the amazing story, superb voice acting, and facial mocap. it was ridiculous.

Decided to pick up the Uncharted trilogy, also by Naughty Dog, and it's a lot of fun, too. Picked up Heavy Rain and Journey, as well.

And funny thing is, I don't miss my Xbox at all.

Then again, if you're predominantly a PC gamer, I could understand where you're coming from. Me, I've always embraced PC among with consoles.

The Last of Us is a nice looking game, but was overall a disappointment. I would constantly find myself loading the game but not playing. The scenery is quite impressive, but the gameplay just isn't there. I've had enough of moving around ladders and I don't think I'm even very far into the game.

The game gets loaded, but something more "fun" is decided upon once we start clumsily moving around the game world.

The initial "start the game to actually playing" is probably one of the longest wait times I've seen for a game. Mainly that loading screen that gets up to 5%-7% and starts over again several times. But once you're in it's not an issue any more, so it's not that big of a deal.

            July 9, 2013 3:45 PM

Seriously.. this is one of the most pointless complaints anyone can make about this game.. that one initial load is the only idle waiting you'll ever do while playing the game - there are no noticeable loading points anywhere else. Its a far FAR cry from what I remember of games like Heavenly Sword at launch, which had insane load times.

I've noticed something weird: sometimes my game takes 2 minutes to load. Other times I jump right in. The parameters don't change. I turn on the system, start the game, and load. Sometimes it just takes forever.

First time playing a Naught Dog game? Yes there is a single long load at the beginning, but 0 loads during the game..you can basically play through the entire game with no loading start to finish provided, i think, you don't skip cutscenes..everything is done in the background or at the beginning.

It's the reason why I would end up spending 7-8 hours at a time through Uncharted 2 and Last of Us, because if you aren't careful, there are no loading screens to break you free from the immersion.

        July 9, 2013 1:13 PM

It loads once and then that's it. If you played it in one sitting, that would have been the only loading screen you see.

Well yeah; this is one of the few PS3 games which don't require at least a partial install of data. This is all from disc, on a pretty damn slow Bluray drive. A digital version would go much, much quicker.

Just started Last of Us last night, tough to give an opinion yet as I'm only about 1 - 1.5 hours in and I feel like they're still introducing me to basic mechanics. As usual the cut scenes/art direction are top notch, though.
