Netflix has officially launched "Max" on the PS3 version of its app. According to the company, Max is a new experience "that helps you find something great to watch in a fun, conversational way." By playing along with a few games, the service will recommend something for you to watch. However, if you find yourself unimpressed by Max, or don't want a robot telling you what to do, Netflix promises that Max's prominence on the dashboard will diminish over time.

Joystiq points out that Max was developed by Jackbox Games, the team behind You Don't Know Jack. That probably explains the snarky commentary of the program's virtual host.

Currently, Max is for PS3 only, but we wouldn't be surprised if he popped over to other platforms in the future.
