Hey, remember when Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon won over the love of the internet? Capitalizing on the collective nostalgia for the 80s, the downloadable game managed to sell over 500,000 copies in under two months. As a standalone release, Blood Dragon also managed to spike sales of the original Far Cry 3, especially on PC.
CEO Yves Guillemot is undoubtedly "very happy" with the performance of Blood Dragon, telling GI.biz that the game has surpassed Ubisoft's expectations. Its success will allow Ubisoft to "further explore that formula of downloadable brand extensions in the future." Perhaps Blood Dragon really is destined to become a new franchise?
Ubisoft's other big downloadable for the year, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger has also done well. However, Ubisoft did not disclose any specific sales figures for that title.
