State of Decay sequel 'would be on Xbox One'

Undead Labs founder Jeff Strain says that if a full sequel comes for State of Decay, it would be an Xbox One game.

State of Decay has been a surprise hit for indie start-up Undead Labs, having recently been declared the fastest-selling original game on Xbox Live Arcade. It only makes sense that the team is considering its sequel options, and studio founder Jeff Strain revealed potential next-gen plans.

"If we do a full sequel to the game, it wouldn't be on currently existing hardware," Strain told Polygon. "We don't know what the future of State of Decay is right now, the IP, the franchise... Clearly if there's a full sequel, it would be on Xbox One. But I can't comment beyond that."

In the nearer future, Undead is planning a "pure survival" sandbox mode. It will feature new measurements of player progress between elements like character survival rate and community health. Strain compared it to SimCity. It will be coming as DLC, but Microsoft will decide whether or not the content will be free.

so he just wants it to be next-gen, which is totally fair. far too early for him to say its a xbone exclusive.

but I can't comment beyond that

Sure sounds like he's hinting they've already been incentivized out of other platforms.

Is the IP owned by MS or by Undead Labs? That'll make the difference.

Looking forward to the first game on the PC before anyone starts churning out a sequel regardless.

Yeah, very possible MS took ownership of the IP as part of the publishing deal. They love to do that whenever possible.

Not really surprising. State of Decay flogs the crap out of the 360 as it is, and making a sequel on a console that will be moving towards obsolescence in less than a year doesn't make much sense.

Awesome played the demo and loved it. I'll wait till it goes on sale to buy the full game but the sequel coming to xbox one will be a great addition to growing number of great exclusives for my xbox one.

The game would be better served on the PC. The controls are clunky as all hell on 360.
