Dead Rising 3 has SmartGlass-exclusive missions

You'll need to play Dead Rising 3 with SmartGlass if you want to access a second character and his missions.

Launching SmartGlass on your phone or tablet while playing Dead Rising 3 will give you additional abilities, like calling down air strikes and marking waypoints. However, there's another reason to keep your handheld device nearby while playing: it's the only way to get the complete game experience.

"You’ll get calls from a character that are only on the SmartGlass device. So if you don’t have SmartGlass, you won’t get those calls from that guy. Which also means you won’t get those missions," executive producer Josh Bridge explained.

Although "you can finish the game without it," Bridge told Siliconera that the character exclusive to SmartGlass has a complete storyline that "interweaves with the main storyline." That's certainly one way of forcing adoption of a cool--albeit somewhat unnecessary--feature.

"Without it, you’re not losing out on what the story is," Bridge said. "But you’re getting more out of the game" by taking advantage of SmartGlass. Thankfully, SmartGlass is available on pretty much every mobile device and isn't exclusive to Windows 8.

Have you found a use for it on the 360 yet? Seemed very slow when I tried it on the iPad (2) and that was just the dashboard

Ok cool, planed to give that game another try (only played the demo which I wasn't 100% fond of) since people keep recommending it. Cheers

Other than moneyhats, what's the reason why this couldn't also work on a Vita hooked up to a PS4, or the Wii U controller?

I think a better question is, what's the reason it can't work on a television?

Why force the player to use his phone/tablet just to unlock some extra missions? It just adds extra hassle without adding anything to the gameplay.

It's a big time Microsoft title. That means only 360 or a later PC release.

So if you don't own a compatible phone/tablet you don't get the full game. Great! Nextgen sucks.

Even if you have SmartGlass on an android phone or tablet, it doesn't mean that those in-game features will work. The SmartGlass apps that are available for my Sony Tablet and Smartphone are dumbed-down versions of the apps available for Windows and iOS devices. Honestly, if MS isn't going to make the effort to deliver the same features on all the platforms the app works on, then modes like these are going to be complete jokes because only a small fraction of users will have compatible devices to use them on. Total inconsistency.

Franky, I'd prefer that the developers release the app themselves, rather than via SmartGlass, as we'll have a better chance of the app working on our device of choice. Being an owner of a Sony phone and tablet and a future PS4 owner, I hope that games that come out for PS4 will at least support those devices with apps along with iOS and Android in general.

If you don't keep the phone up and to your ear the whole time he'll yell at you for being rude for a minute, then start the message over from the beginning.
