Tom Clancy's The Division is online RPG for Xbox One and PS4

Paper money really is quite filthy, but it takes a special type of hypochondriac or apocalypse fetishist to imagine a virus spread by notes bringing about the downfall of society. That's the premise of Tom Clancy's The Division, an online RPG Ubisoft announced for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 during its pre-E3 press conference.

The Division goes down three weeks after a bug-smeared note gets passed around on Black Friday, and New York City descends into chaos. First rubbish piles up in the street, then food begins to run out, then... well, you call in The Division to tidy up the mess.

The faux-spontaneous demo saw a group roaming the near-deserted streets of NYC, heading to help out a besieged police station. It looked mostly like another typical shooter in Ubisoft's modern Tom Clancy vein, with cover and guns and all that, but with skills and skill points and looting weapons and whatnot. Players had abilities like a group heal, area scans, homing mines, distracting noise-makers, and sentry turrets.

Then a chap playing on a tablet joined in, controlling an aerial drone. Yes, The Division also has a companion app which hooks into the regular game, like Ubisoft is apparently keen to make 'a thing,' letting mobile folks mark and attack targets and generally help out.

The Division is developed by Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment studio, creator of Ground Control and recent collaborator on Far Cry 3.

Look for it on Xbox One and PS4 in 2014. Fingers crossed for PC, gang. Hit the website for more.

I am hoping for a PC port of this as it looks pretty interesting. It seems up there with WatchDogs in presentation.

Am I the only one who finds those blobs/smudges on the lens to be incredibly distracting? I can't unsee them and I end up focusing on the blobs instead of the gameplay. I try to ignore them but I always end up looking at them. it were real life I'd simply clean the lens, but there's no such option in games.

Battlefield 3 was the first game I played to feature blobs and the lens and it made the game unplayable for me. Blobs on the lens is now an instant no buy for me because I know I won't be able to enjoy the game even if it's good. Sadly it seems that they're in pretty much every next-gen game so it looks like my only option is to hand in my gamer card.

Yes, it's an unfortunate trend in modern games along with the more obtrusive lens flares.

"Disable all lens effects" should be an option in every game!

Videogame programmers have dirty glasses. This is the world as they see it. It's a cry for help.

Wow this was really looking like a great game.

I never really was a fan of Ubisoft but this game along with Watchdog might turn me into one :)

This game alone would sell me on a next-gen console. Wonder if it's cross platform play?

When the healer chick shot that 90-second shit into the air and the PVP started and the map zoomed out I busted a nut and wrote a run-on sentence.
