Rocksmith 2014 Edition announced for October

Ubisoft kicked off its pre-E3 press conference with a little rocking from Alice in Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell, which is certainly always welcome. Oh, but you see, it wasn't all for fun: he was there to unveil a new version of guitar tutorial game Rocksmith, which adds a Session Mode to freestyle, jam and wail away with a virtual band.

Oh, but you see, it wasn't all for fun: he was there to unveil a new version of guitar tutorial game Rocksmith, which adds a Session Mode to freestyle, jam and wail away with a virtual band.

"I picked a virtual band and started playing and the game's band reacts to what I do, and it's like jamming with real musicians," Cantrell explained. The band has four slots, which you can fill with instruments from pianos and organs to guitars with umpteen different effects.

Rocksmith 2014 Edition also adds a 'Riff Repeater' so players can focus on learning specific parts of songs however they please, a 'Master Mode' which Ubi says "makes playing by memory more approachable," and extra Guitarcade mini-games.

And, as you might expect, Alice in Chains is in the game, with the recent single Stone. Other songs confirmed are Aerosmith's Walk This Way, Bob Dylan's Knockin' On Heaven's Door, The Smashing Pumpkins' The Chimera, Don't Look Back In Anger from Oasis, and ultra soul by B'z.

Rocksmith 2014 is coming in October 2014 to PC, Mac, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. I'd hardly be surprised if this hit Xbox One and PS4 later too.

Yes, the steam demo was vastly better than the game on XBox 360 (which I own). There the lag just kind of kills it for me. Have to see if I can get that fixed somehow, by hooking up the XBox differently or so.
