EA to support current gen for 'many many years' to come

Sure, the next generation of consoles will enable prettier, shinier games. But what if you don't care for the draconian policies of Xbox One? What if you're perfectly satisfied with the experienced offered by current-gen? Well, EA plans on making sure you're covered.

Sure, the next generation of consoles will enable prettier, shinier games. But what if you don't care for the draconian policies of Xbox One? What if you're perfectly satisfied with the experienced offered by current-gen? Well, EA plans on making sure you're covered.

"I can tell you we have products planned for next year, the year after that and the year after that for gen 3 for sure," EA's Frank Gibeau said. And by gen 3, he's referring to the PS3 and Xbox 360 generation--not what the rest of us consider the third generation, which includes NES and Master System.

"Gen 3 is an awesome platform," he told Polygon. "It has a huge audience and has a lot of capability and we're going to continue to publish games on gen 3 for as long as there is an audience there. We have a tendency as a company to support the last-gen platforms for many many years."

Gibeau's statement is largely true. For example, Battlefield 4 is not only coming out on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but will also appear on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. In previous generations, many of their games enjoyed cross-generational releases, especially early in the 360's lifetime.

Unfortunately, Nintendo fans won't have much to look forward to from the publisher, in spite of Gibeau's reassurance that "we have a good partnership with Nintendo." As stated before, the publisher currently has no games in development for Wii U.

      Three minutes prior to release:

"Three years can be considered "many," right?"

      "Sure."

      "Run with it."

So Wii U doesn't even count as current gen?

"Gen 3 is an awesome platform."
It's terryfing how dumb EA statements are.

EA did make games for the PS2 up until last year (which makes the lack of Wii U titles a bit annoying). Just sayin'.

      Standard practice.

      PS3 was released in 2006.

      Madden NFL 09 (2008)
      Madden NFL 10 (2009)
      Madden NFL 11 (2010)
      Madden NFL 12 (2011)

No they won't. Like any transition they'll milk the players who can't afford the new shiny boxes for a year or two tops.

I'm only bitter about not getting a new Tiger Woods for the Wii U. Talk about a missed opportunity that game is fucking awesome on the Wii. I swear it helped make my golf swing more consistent.
