Ppl are pissed cuz Doom had content, Quake1 had content, Quake2 had content, but Quake3 is an SDK with a few sample maps and models. Think about it... look at the number of tiny maps in Quake3:Arena, which can be made in less than a week. I'm thinking dm0, dm1, dm16, dm17, dm19, tourney1, tourney3, tourney5, tourney6 (didn't willits admit to building this map in a few hours?), q3ctf4... some of these would be good rocket arena maps FFS. And most of them are fucking uninspired. If it wasn't for RA3 I would have shredded this game from my HD a long time ago, and never looked back. For a multiplayer only game, you can't deny that we got screwed.

Sure the gameplay is unparalleled, but I don't know anyone who is satisfied with the maps in quake3. When I get my hands on RA3, I'm hoping to see the real quake3:arena.

They can shove their teamarena up their rectums. Preferrably the tin version if it's available.

On an unrelated note. I got a GeForceDDR three days ago and tried UT again. The game is actually somewhat playable now. It says that I'm getting 55fps, but the first 2,3 minutes of any game are filled with pauses while it loads textures as I look around.

But, disregarding that. I'm surprised at how much fun I find the game to be. The bot AI and the presentation felt light years beyond Q3A. And even the "feel" was a lot better after I changed the fov to 105. Plus I even started to like Domination.

I really believe that this game would have totally OWNED had it used a different engine capable of running better in D3d and pushing at least as much polygons as Q1.

If you're into brainless deathmatching, Quake3 is good. Unfortunately, a lot of people have moved past the outdated concept of "one man for himself" and now the more advanced teamplay stage. Sure, the oldschoolers who don't bother to adapt will claim "teamplay is for pussies" and something to the equivalent. But in my opinion, teamplay games take much more skill than deathmatch games. First off, you have to have the same amount of individual skill that you do in deathmatch - without the deathmatching instinct of killing people, you're useless (unelss you're in a really organized clan and have a role of spying in TFC or what not). But you also have to be able to fill roles and cooperate with your team. You can't just rambo off in most teamplay games and not expect to be completely slaughtered. To succeed, a team has to work as one, and fill up the roles of whatever is needed (defense and offense, sniping and frontal assaults, etc.) while still managing to help each other out. In DM, especially 1vs1, it all boils down to "kill the other guy". In teamplay, it boils down to "defend the base, kill the other guys, and do the objective". While teamplay isn't a whole lot more complex than deathmatch, it's certainly a step up.

I hate how people say "you can't compare game xxx and game xxx". Of course you can, just cause one is teamplay-based and the other deathmatch doesn't mean they both don't attempt to entertain and make you have fun. So you're comparing the fun factor. Hell I could compare Quake3 and an orange's funfactor if I wanted to. Guess what the winner would be? ;)

I'm worried that the new weapons would be incorparated into regular DM and force people to have to buy this shit to play on most servers. That would be very ghey. I paid a little over $40 for the game. The price off the add-on is definately not justified. I continue to be underwhelmed by id in general.

I paid $65 in canuckbucks before tax for Q3, so that's a lot lower than $55 US (probably more like $45). Haven't really regretted it since - I like just being able to hop into a straight match for 20 minutes, and I don't like the feel of UT as much. What can I say...

I mean, there's no way in hell I'm going to buy this useless piece of junk that can't possibly compare to CounterStrike, but I knew what I was getting into with Quake3, the demo was very representative of the game... do I wish I hadn't bought it? Yeah, sometimes, but I'm not going to blame id for my buying decisions.

This wasn't a suprise The Carmack leaked it b4 hand I knew this was gonna happen. In his little thing on /. about him being on the XBox committee he said at the end we are planning a simeoultaneous(spellcheck need to be integrated here sTeve) release of Mac OSX and Linux. Now that would be way too ahead of time to announce something like that for DOOM so that leave Team Arena. And that wasn't a suprise...ooooooooo an fps running on a mac ooooooo. Please you could have at least told us the DOOM engine was ready and u could do cool stuff like take the bones from some toasted guy and beat another enemy to death with em. Pshhh.
