LeBron James may have a sour taste in his mouth after last night's Game 1 loss to the San Antonio Spurs. Luckily, there's some news that might cheer the Miami superstar up--he's getting his first video game cover! King James will be on the cover of NBA 2K14, which is slated to come to Xbox 360 and PS3 on October 1, and Xbox One and PlayStation 4 after the consoles are released.

2K Sports unveiled a video in which LeBron emerged from the shadows to reveal that he wants to join the elite company of the NBA's greatest legends. This is apparently setting up the new "Path To Greatness" mode. Details of the new mode have not yet been revealed, so it's unknown whether it will feature a simulated egocentric one-hour special, in which the player must press X to take his talents to South Beach.

"My friends, family, and fans all know how much I love NBA 2K. I remember, as a kid, getting so excited for the game to come out and see who was on the cover and it's amazing to be a part of this great tradition," James said in a release. "I love partnerships and opportunities that connect me directly with fans. I know from my own experience and now watching my own kids, NBA 2K is among the coolest and purest ways for fans to connect to the NBA. I love being a part of it."

Pre-orders will give players a free King James Bonus Pack, which includes a number of LeBron-related goodies.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
