CNN is reporting that a law has just been passed in Indiana that requires 'strong sexual content' or violent video games to be placed behind curtains and kids under 18yrs old not be allowed within 10 feet of the machine. Rumor has it they are going to start forcing all kids under 18 to wear special goggles so they cant see cable television or news broadcasts either.
They must also be separated by a curtain or wall so minors cannot view them. The law bars people under age 18 from such games unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. [snip] The law takes effect September 1. Businesses can be fined $200 a day for each violation

Kids can't go see really violent movies (supposedly) without a parent, why should they be able to buy really violent games?
Kids also can't vote, drive (16 is too young IMO regardless, and yes i thought this when I was 16, especially from seeing how iresspoinsibly my 16 year old friends drove), drink, smoke, etc.
This will make it all the easier to hold the PARENTS responsible when some kid pulls a columbine. Just like with the guns, the question won't be are games ok, it will be who gave the game to the kid.

Seriously though, I don't like the trend I'm seeing, soon the government will tell me what games I can or can't play or what thing I can or can't do with my life...that job used to be reserved for my parents...bah

whatever happened to good old fashioned parenting? The parents deciding what their kids can and can't do. What they can and can't see. Now the law is raising kids in place of the parents (not just this law, but others I know of).
