Deus Ex: The Fall is a mobile FPS

The Fall is set in 2027, like Human Revolution, but has you playing as Ben Saxon, star of the tie-in novel Deus Ex: Icarus Effect. He's off an a mission to find out why he was betrayed by his former chums the Tyrants (the folks from HR's boss battles), and may need to elbow-stab some men.

From the announcement trailer, it seems to be a pretty and fairly faithful take on the new Deus Ex model, with first-person shooting and third-person cover and experience points and augmentations and takedowns and all that jazz, though with locking-on so it's playable on mobile screens.

Development is handled by Square Enix Mobile, "in collaboration with" Human Revolution developer Eidos Montreal and N-Fusion. Hit the official site for more.

It'll launch this summer on iOS at $6.99. Square Enix notes in the announcement that it's "the first instalment of the mobile series", so one imagines we'll see more of it.

Ouch, I was not expecting this from the announcement - I thought it would be a new full-blown multiplatform release.

I have very little interest in this.

Android is apparently coming later, yes, just not a set date yet. I might try it on the Nexus 10 at that price.

That looks fairly complex for a mobile game. Hope they'll consider porting it to more appropriate platforms down the road.

/facepalm I don't want to rant I really don't.... Are they trying to avoid everything PC and ps3/360 consoles? First they put out directors cut on wii u, that's fine and dandy more power to Wii u owners (Problem is I don't own a wii u). Now this a completely new game on the the what? Ipad/Iphone?? Two things I do not own. At least put it on Android phones, and tablets. (two things I own) I'm a huge fan of this game and can't believe I won't be able to play any of these versions thanks to the hardware they put the game on. It would be awesome if they put this on pc/console as DLC... Maybe? What a waste of resources to do this, I don't know for sure but are FPS's really that popular on phones/ipads? Touch pad controls are shit compared to controllers....

In my experience FPS games don't play very well with touch controls, unless it's on rails, but then that's a Rail Shooter not an FPS.

Sadly, I doubt it will come to Android, or at least not with any haste. Android owners, I guess, just don't buy stuff, so I hear from most devs anyway.

I'd rather have a game on a traditional platform, but I guess I can't complain.

Unless the game is an overpriced mess that is a massive microtransaction cash grab on top of a $18 price tag.... as SE IOS games tend to be.

On the other hand if it's a good game well catered to the system with fair pricing, then kudos. Success of this can lead to the funding of other good projects.

I'm realistic though. I won't keep my fingers crossed long. It wouldn't surprise me if this app is at least $15.

$6.99 seems pretty cheap for a SE game. (judging by how they like to price their FF titles)

The price line also says it's the first of a mobile series. Probably short and the future installments will add up.

Dual virtual sticks are stupid. I wouldn't buy it even if I did own an iOS device. Trying to shoehorn the control scheme from the main games onto a device that has no analog sticks or dpad is foolhardy design.

Eh, what they showed doesn't look bad, really, it's just on a very non-optimal platform. But considering this isn't even the main team I don't really think there's a reason to be that negative.

Also, Gunther showed up in that novel, so there's a chance we may see some familiar faces.

Well I think it looks cool. :( I'm kinda used to dual-stick touch controls now, and I'd love to play a bit of Deus Ex anywhere.

I mean yeah, it'd be cool to have the game on more suited platforms, but I can pretty much guarantee that these guys were told to make a mobile title and this is what they came up with. I really doubt they went "Hey let's make more Deus Ex" and got told "You must do it for mobile".
