Castlevania: Lords of Shadow hits PC August 27

Konami said in today's overdue formal announcement that the PC edition "boasts enhanced 1080p HD graphics, runs at a solid 60 frames per second via recommended spec, and offers trophy integration through Steam with Cloud saving."

It probably just got a little confused and forgot that PCs can run higher resolutions than 1080p; don't worry about it. And that boast about 60fps with the recommended spec doesn't mean much without knowing what the spec is but, ah, the Steam page isn't up yet as I write this.

It also includes the two $10 DLC chapters, Reverie and Resurrection.

Lords of Shadow, if you didn't pay attention when it came out on PlayBox and XStation in October 2010 because who cares about those, was a rather God of War-y take on the classic monster-mashing series, with all the drama one could hope to wring from games about whipping Dracula.

I hated this game.. went back to it a few months later and then fell in love with it (and I'm looking forward to the sequel) but I honestly don't understand the rationale behind porting and releasing a game to a new platform (especially the PC) THREE YEARS after it's initial release.

Honestly I think that a lot of these Japanese developers took notice of the success Dark Souls had doing a late PC port.

I think they're going to be very disappointed. Dark Souls is a unique game, there's practically nothing out there like it (unlike Lords of Shadow which you could argue sits right next to God of War, Darksiders etc) - Dark Souls could be played and enjoyed purely offline in single-player but it came into it's own in with the multiplayer and online interactions. I'm assuming (and it is a big assumption, I only played on the 360) that the sales were that good mostly from word of mouth but also because the multiplayer is so important and people wanted to avoid the hassle of playing a cracked/pirated version on GFWL.

There's not really a glut of these kinds of games on PC though. Darksiders is a stretch, as that's more Zelda-esque, IMO.

I was quite happy to buy Alan Wake on PC 2 years after release on the 360. A good game is a good game no matter when it first came out. Also they often launch on the PC at a much lower price which means more people are going to impulse buy it.

I'd love to see what they did with the PC visual options. It was already a good looking game, but some extra PC love, it could still be quite impressive looking. I may wait for the eventual Lords of Shadow 1/2 Pack on steam. I beat the game and both DLC packages on 360 already, and really enjoyed it at the time. Since then, Dark Souls has actually scratched that "3d Castlevania" itch even better than LoS1 did. LoS1 seemed like a modern take on the more linear original style of Castlevania, with some God of War thrown in. Dark Souls is to me what I always wanted from a 3d take on Symphony of the Night.

Also, still holding out for an XBLA release of the 3DS LoS game. I heard rumors that the assets were already created for one, as the 3ds version was actually all downscaled assets, and that they still had all the original materials for some unannounced reason.
