Sega's remake of Castle of Illusion is definitely banking on its legacy, but it's not stopping with mere homage. A behind-the-scenes trailer from the developer showcases the original game, and a few tweaks made for the new version.

Sega had apparently pitched this idea multiple times, and ended up showing a prototype to the original director, Emiko Yamamoto. She claims that the game has certainly changed, but its essence remains the same. The lengthy look talks about what set the original apart, and how Sega Australia has approached creating a similar feel for this game. Castle of Illusion is due this summer.

That looks pretty good. To me it really does look like the captured the original in a modern remake.

I hope that World of Illusion will be next and that it will be a better remake due to the experience of this one.
