Civilization 5: Brave New World trailer shows off trade routes

A new trailer for Civilization 5's Brave New World expansion shows off the new trade routes system.

It's a testament to Civilization 5's thoughtful, historically-based gameplay that the addition of international trade routes is a major pillar of the upcoming Brave New World expansion. Firaxis has talked quite a bit about the new ideology and cultures, so it's time for trade to have its day in the sun.

The revised system is said to help you expand more smoothly and actually pick your own paths to determine your trading partners. A new trailer shows off the feature.       This sort of reminds me of how Call to Power handled them. Bad AI would cause opponents to seize your trade routes and declare random war for no reason at all.

        Seeing copies of the resource icons just hovering around the map was kind of strange to see.

          My friend who was a casual observer used to call the ivory routes, "Jet powered elephants"

      While recently playing Civ V, I think I put the nail on one of the biggest reasonswhy Civ 5 is a regression on the whole vs. past Civs... The game's perk system reminds me of an MMORPG grind. You have to keep playing to get to the next perk and/or level. It's like leveling up in Torchlight or some WoW. The incentive to play is to level up level up level up. It's a distinct difference between Civ IV, where in Civ IV there was of course improved buildings as you played (as in all other Civs) but the level up system was more of a balance / trade off than straight power power power. There is very little trade off in CIv V along the way, that which only is you didn't choose X perk over Y perk. Civ IV's choices were fewer but way more meaningful, that sometimes came with both positive and negative changes.

      I miss the balance of having finite bonuses and giving up certain bonuses (quasi permanently) in favor of other bonuses and potential consequences. :( Oh well, it's not like Civ V is a horrible game, it's just not as good on the whole.

        That sounds like a fair criticism of the game, aside from the issues of land grabbing, military and political matters, you don't make that many critical decisions.

      Are those normal riflemen? Looks like they've decreased the amount of soldiers on the visuals.

      This is part of the reason I'm holding off on that $20 Firaxis pack. The vague XCOM DLC is a bigger factor. Will wait for the 'complete' editions and play the 'full' games...

      Hudson. I can see what your saying... Marjorie`s st0ry is neat, I just bought a great new Land Rover Range Rover from having made $6356 this past month and-a little over, ten-k lass month. it's by-far the most financialy rewarding I've had. I started this 6 months ago and almost straight away made myself minimum $73, per/hr. , Exit35.com

      Had a couple qualms but who am I kidding, it's Civ, this is going to take over my life.

      It doesn't look like there's an expansion worth of content here. Nothing really game changing, imo, and stuff like automatic trade routes is token and adds nothing to gameplay.
