Final Fantasy XIV has been going though a facelift, and fans of the MMO will finally be able to get a look at the new product when A Realm Reborn launches on August 27 for PC and PlayStation 3. Publisher Square Enix has also announced a special Collector's Edition for the game.

"It has been a long road from the game’s inception to the beta, but thanks to your fervent support and invaluable feedback, the world of Eorzea will soon complete its journey of rebirth," Naoki Yoshida, producer and director of A Realm Reborn, said in a release. "We have endeavored to make the game affordable so that adventurers will be able to experience the vibrant world of Eorzea."

The CE, which will retail for $79.99, includes an art book and soundtrack, a video detailing the event leading up to the "rebirth," a security token for game accounts, collectible cards and four in-game items: Helm of Light, Baby Behemoth Minion, Coeurl Mount and Behemoth Barding. Of course, if none of that appeals to you, you can grab the new game for $29.99 on PC, $39.99 on PS3.

this game will *never* be F2P. ever.

FFXI still requires a sub fee.

Well they're offering an $80 collector's edition of a game they already released once to nigh universal derision, so I guess I'd call this the P and P and P2P model.

Man, I still have the collector's edition for the first release! Pretty sure this will be the first game I've bought two versions of a collector's edition for.

according to the beta forums, any ff14 1.0 subscribers get all the non physical things from the CE. They also get a lower subscription rate for LIFE.

i think its like 6 dollars vs everyone elses 10?

You do not have to rebuy the game is you bought 1.0. They are also offering an upgrade path to the collectors edition if you owned the regular version of 1.0. 1.0 collectors edition owners will automatically qualify for the digital collectors items in ARR as well.
