Microsoft has announced a live-action Halo TV series in conjunction with film great Steven Spielberg that will air exclusively on Xbox Live. Spielberg will work with developer 343 Industries on the series.

"The Halo universe is an amazing opportunity to be at that intersection where technology and myth-making meet to produce something truly groundbreaking," Spielberg said in a pre-recorded video at the Xbox One reveal event.

It was mentioned as a "premium television series," so it is possible it will not be free as Forward Unto Dawn was.

No other details were revealed on when the show would air or how far into pre-production the show is. Polygon was able to confirm that Spielberg will be the executive producer on the series.

While I enjoy most of Spielberg's work the fact he was also involved with Terra Nova and Falling Skies should bring expectations down to more realistic levels. I think Blomkamp(District 9) would've been a far better fit for live action Halo than Spielberg.

When did the "Produced by" stop meaning anything? About 10 years ago, 15? Seems like Abrams, Spielberg, Soderbergh...

They're all happy to take multi-millions for their name and a few writer's room sit ins.

Produced by on TV still means something, production in movies is useless. But I don't think this'll be representative of the former by any stretch.

Terranova didn't have an established fanbase the way Halo does.

I'm not optimistic. I think it will be a tough sell for Spielberg bring in top talent (directors / actors) for an Xbox Exclusive Series. Infinitely more of an uphill battle than Fincher and Co. had with Netflix and "House of Cards" due to the obvious.
