Gran Turismo 6 dev has PS4 edition 'in mind'

Gosh, wasn't it odd when Sony announced Gran Turismo 6 only for the PlayStation 3 when the PlayStation 4 is so close? What an unlikely turn of events! Would you believe that developer Polyphony Digital is also considering a PS4 version? Probably not. Too outlandish.

"We have a PS4 version in mind for the future" Polyphony president Kazunori Yamauchi told GameSpot. Gasp! "But for this holiday season we thought that it would be best for users to release the PS3 version."

As for when such a thing might arrive on PS4, Yamauchi couldn't say. For now, the studio plans lots of new content and DLC on PS3. "Once the players have thoroughly played out the game, if the PlayStation 4 version just came out naturally in the process, we think that would be the best scenario for the game," he said.

Pleasantly, he said players would "probably" be able to transfer progress from PS3 to PS4.

So, it's not formally announced, but yeah, it's looking pretty certain. Gran Turismo 6 is due on PlayStation 3 this holiday season, preceded by a demo in July.

Load time on the PS4 ed with an SSD are cut to under 7 mins per submenu in the 12 layer deep options menu.

There was a video of GT6 with menu navigations. Seems it loads in 5-10 secs.

Why does there need to be loading in menus at all....? Sounds like same old engine, same old GT design.

It's probably very likely that forza 5 will be an next gen Xbox launch title.

That's where my money is. I love Forza games. But I might actually be getting a Sony console for a LONG long time, so... I might actually dive into a GT game again when it comes out.

As a PS3 only owner, the only game I genuinely miss on the 360 is Forza. GT just does not come close unfortunately. You'll find it insufficient as an experience if you've played a lot of Forza.

Yeah, I'm kind of thinking the same thing. I have always loved the way Forza handles and the structure and everything surrounding the racing is just so much more fleshed out and refined.

The nice thing is Sony will let you use any popular USB wheel which I imagine will carry over to the PS4.

Nope obviously this is only coming out for PS3 and never ever coming out for PS4. Ever.

Is the PS4 going to have any kind of backwards compatibility with the PS3? I want to get a PS but I want to go back and play some of the PS3 exclusives I've missed out on and play some of the new stuff like The Last of Us.

Not that they've said. If it has any, I would guess it'll be via streaming once they get that going.

You're definitely not going to be sticking PS3 game discs into a PS4 and playing them though.

Probably they can brute force PS3/PS2 B/C like how the PS3 had limited software B/C for them after they removed the PS2 hardware from later SKUs.

Well why buy the PS3 version then? I was disappointed to hear this was coming for PS3, I had hoped those guys were working on PS4 stuff for the last few years. It takes them ages to put anything out, they need all the time they can get. Who is going to be excited for GT 6.5 5 years into the PS4 lifespan...

Okay that last line was catty, but they are awfully slow developers. Eh I guess they always put out quality so who the hell am I to complain.
