Gaijin Entertainment's World War II-themed MMO War Thunder is coming to PlayStation 4. It will make its "console debut" later this year, which suggests that it may appear on the next Xbox after a period of exclusivity.

The PC original, currently in open beta, has "over 1.5 million" players, according to the publisher. The free-to-play game uses "Golden Eagles," an in-game currency that allows players to buy premium subscriptions, pilot licenses, and other additional game content. They can be purchased for real money, of course.

According to the announcement, "the power of PS4 will allow developers to include improved head-tracking system, easier socializing tools, smart and easy options to record, stream and share homemade gameplay videos and will have full support of PlayStation Cloud," a thing that hasn't really been formally announced yet (whoops).

Here's the teaser trailer:

Has there ever been anything free-to-play and Asian RPG grindy on a console before?

Free-to-play hasn't really been done too often on a console, period. Dust 514 launched today on PS3, and SOE offered DCUO and FreeRealms on PS3. Can't really think of anything on Xbox 360.

I wish I was less terrible at this game. :P

Still, looking forward to the tank and ship introductions, whenever that happens. Hopefully soonish. But probably not.
