by Steve Gibson, Jul 17, 2000 8:03pm PDTIt looks like the pieces are falling in place for that 'id Surprise' story from this morning. The guys at InsideMac have dug up some dirt from Bizwire with word that a new Mac will be announced which will be powered by the ATI Radeon. As you guys might recall id has a bit of a history with Apple and ATI. They showed off Quake3 for the first time ever at a Mac show on Jan17, 1999.
ATI plans a surprise announcement on July 19. In a keynote, wait for Apple to announce three new systems with ATI graphics in them. One will be an iMac with the RAGE 4XL chip, the remaining two are PowerMacs which will ship with RAGE 128 PRO standard and RADEON.So I feel its safe to assume they will be showing the id stuff on one of those systems. What they are showing though, dunno. I'm leaning towards something mission pack related though.

No they would use the best, most amazing new game to show off there new all powerful computer......and that is Doom 3.
Let me make this clear, the Q3 engine is really good but it is not as good as the New Latest ones.
JC must have been working on his new engine for a while when Quake 3 was in development and carried on into the MP's development. So from an engine it can not be that hard to make technology demo. I mean Bungie did that with Halo when they first showed it off.
