World of Tanks developer Wargaming has filed an infringement suit against two Chinese companies, in regards to Gamease's "Project Tank." The suit alleges that Project Tank is "an unoriginal and disturbingly similar game directly based on World of Tanks."

Polygon reports that the complaint charges that Project Tank "copied the plot, theme, dialogue, mood, setting, pace, and character of World of Tanks, in addition to copying specific features, items, tanks, and artwork." So essentially, everything.

The complaint is filed against Changyou.com, and Beijing Gamease Age Digital Technology Co., Ltd. Wargaming cited a number of specific similarities, from similar UI layouts to tech trees. It also claims that tank models and textures were copied directly, and even imitated historical inaccuracies and fictional constructs from World of Tanks. Finally, it alleges that a patent for "Dynamic battle session matchmaking in a multiplayer game" has been used. Wargaming is seeking damages and an injunction against continued infringement.

Changyou, in response, claims it feels "truly shocked and bullied" by Wargaming, and says it only aims "to provide a cheaper, fairer, and more accessible war game to players around the world." It also states that Wargaming has "launched a series of underhand [sic] actions against Project Tank, including using their connections to shut down our Facebook page, over PT's purported infringement' of their intellectual property rights."

I knew that was coming. It was sad to see them just copy the game.

What are the chances of this suit working, considering it's a Chinese company?

None. But, they still have to try to defend their IP. It'll serve them in the marketing and gaming community.

"to provide a cheaper, fairer, and more accessible war game to players around the world."

That's pretty laughable considering WOT is F2P and one of the most accessible games on the market.

The game is quite costly should you ever wish to buy any thing at all hell you wish to buy a tank you can be looking at a good £50 for some.

copied the plot, theme, dialogue, mood, setting, pace, and character of World of Tanks

There is no plot its just TDM every MP FPS has done that so baseless.
The Theme is tanks so all war games have done it so again baseless.
There is no dialogue unless you count the voice packs for hits or been hit.
There is no real mood to the game so baseless.
Setting any WW1/2 game again baseless.
The pace slow camps teams or fast rushers every fps ever made so baseless.
The character its just tanks so most war era based games so baseless.

Holy shit i just took apart all most the whole law suit.

The only thing wargaming can sue over is IF they did copy paste parts of the game other than that there is no case.

Hell even if they had a case its pointless since there based in china.

I did as well still my other post still stands only thing they can sue for us the whole copy paste of some parts of the game.

The only real copy paste seems to be the UI unless he reworked the tanks to all look shoddy as hell after a copy paste.

it may be F2P but it's not F2Enjoy. I was one of the early T10 pilots and I was lucky enough to have my T10 climb heavily subsidized by Clan Wars gold (a luxury most people don't get) and it STILL cost me somewhere in the range of 120 dollars to do it in a reasonable amount of time.

Yea that's pretty damn similar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjrjZc5tfRI

Annoying that you could make another 1st/3rd person tank F2P game and it would only be similar because it has tanks, but instead of that they literally copied everything almost exactly.

I wonder if wargaming had used a Chinese dev shop to do work for them (outsourcing) and that could be the source of all assets.
