Magic 2014 introduces Sealed Deck construction

Making your own deck is one of the finest parts of playing Magic: The Gathering, but sadly we haven't been able to do this in the Duels of the Planeswalkers video games. This year's installment, Magic 2014, will finally introduce deck construction, in a way, with a sealed deck mode. You'll get to open virtual booster packs and make a deck out of the cards, then throw down against other wizards with sealed decks.

This year's installment, Magic 2014, will finally introduce deck construction, in a way, with a digital version of sealed deck. You'll get to open virtual booster packs and make a deck out of the cards, then throw down against other wizards. "Each sealed pool is comprised of 84 cards, mimicking paper TCG booster packs," Wizards of the Coast said in today's announcement. Whether that pool is the same every time or randomised like actual boosters, that's a mystery for now. You'll get to fight five mono decks in the sealed deck campaign, then rumble with a 'boss' deck that's probably all sorts of multi-coloured--which is only sensible in sealed, really. WotC also announced today that the swarming Sliver creatures, which all boost each other's abilities, will be in Magic 2014. It'll offer "a new take" on the beasties with 10 new Sliver creatures and a spell which tosses out Sliver tokens. Lovely! Magic 2014 is due this summer, getting a downloadable release on PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, iOS, and Android. Look, new screenshots of opening boosters and making a deck:

Turbo boost!

      This sounds like magic drafts!

If this can be played a multiplayer tournament then this just might be really awesome.

They need a browser version of magic. Every retail Magic deck should come with a serial number you can punch in and claim digital versions of those cards, and then play online. Then they can sell digital versions for a few cents less.

might actually buy this. I'd love to play Magic on a tablet but the previous iterations have offered very little for veterans. Not sure how this will affect MTGO.

It sure sounds like it's a small pool of cards, so not even close to a real draft or sealed deck. I mean, I love these games but this just sounds like a variation on what the old games were.

Dotp have been fun games, albeit a little buggy. Lost all my decks in the 2013 version, but they unlocked all of them for me for free when I wrote in. I will definitely be picking up this new version! Keep us updated Alice!
