Intel Responds to RAM Benchmarks
by Maarten Goldstein, Jul 15, 2000 6:39am PDTThe Register has some quotes from an Intel spokesperson saying the Intel benchmarks showing that SDRAM on a i815 chipset motherboard can be faster than the expensive RAMBUS ram they want to shove down our throats, aren't saying much.
"Today's benchmarks run their tests consecutively, which doesn't give Rambus a chance to show how well it performs when there's a lot of heavy memory usage.I imagine working with a benchmark organisation goes like this "Please make a benchmark that has RAMBUS ram come out as the winner. Here is your $".
"We're working with the major benchmarking organisations to develop more realistic test methodologies which will show the kind of performance of which Rambus is capable."

#34, Intel said they might support DDR memory, they didnÂ’t say they will 100% support. What is 100% sure is they will support Rambus for their future motherboards.

With all these politics going on will there come a time when Benchmarking software will becoma a totally unreliable source of comparison? I hope not.

Sorry to reply twice, but I just saw this...
What about when you compare RDRAM to DDR SDRAM? Is their any possibility of advantage there in the foreseeable future? I recall an Anandtech article on this that didn't think so.

KONO BAKA-RAMBUS GA!!!
If SDRAM can occasionally beat RDRAM, imagine what DDRAM would do to it. :-D
