Pikmin 3 finally has a release date of August 4, after missing the launch window of the Wii U ending March 31. Oddly, with as much time as Nintendo president Satoru Iwata spent talking about the game in today's Nintendo Direct, the date was only announced in a press release and not in the presentation.

Iwata showed off a little more of the game play, including a new winged Pikmin that will make some tasks easier in the game. Creator Shigeru Miyamoto has said that he wants to go back to basics with the new installment and induce a bit more stress on players.

That's far too far away dammit... I'm a little scared the Wii U summer drought is going to be unbearably bad.

Lego City is good, and Need for Speed... I think I'm set through May... I might have to go clear some of my PC and Wii back catalog of games. Company of Heroes 2 will make my summer!

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate could keep me going till then actually (probably will end up logging about 500 hours into this one, given where I am currently and how much I have to go). But I have yet to pick up Lego City Undercover and will be enjoying some eShop titles for sure (Super Metroid comes next month for 30¢ and Duck Tales will be awesome). I guess I'll have time to go through some PC gaming backlog and Blood Dragon.

So much for that great launch window, eh Nintendo?

Time is running out to get any sort of momentum building for this damn machine.
Less than 2 months until E3.
7 months until new boxes show up from Sony and MS.

I think it was a mistake to have pikmin 3 as a first year title. They have committed so much time and effort into it that could have gone to a game that was going to motivate people to actually buy the console. Now they've missed the May ship window so even if the game will be finished before June, they dare not launch it at the same time as the big summer movies of june/july.

So now they wait until August and Nintendo squanders over eight months of their one year head start.

      Prediction:
I think they're lining up their eggs to push hard through the end of the year, I'm just not sure if it'll be enough.

      August- Pikmin 3
September- Yarn Yoshi (as counter programming for GTA V)
      October- Wonderful 101
      November- New 3D mario/ Retro's game
      December- Mario Kart

E3 is make or break time. Most exciting E3 since 2006.

Mario Kart this year? Keep wishing.

Wind Waker will help... Looks like it's a much better year for 3DS at this point.

Didn't they say as much in the January Direct? Or maybe they were just talking about the E3 playable demo. 3D Mario sequel is supposed to be playable there too.

We all the same thing about the 3DS. All it takes is a strategic price but + a shit-ton of good games in a relatively short window, and it will be fine.

Fuck. I was really hoping this was launching sooner than that. Amazing how they originally expected it to be an actual launch title too. :(
