Darkfall: Unholy Wars launches out of beta

Hardcore MMORPG Darkfall: Unholy Wars sort of launched in November, but that was only a soft-ish, beta-y launch. Yesterday it actually, properly, really launched. If you fancy an MMO which won't give you a hand up or hand-out, simply giving you enough rope to feel like you're great then running out to show off your cool rope to everyone then getting brutally murdered by another player, this may be up your street.

Unholy Wars began life as a huge patch intended to hit Darkfall Online in 2010, but over the years has grown and morphed into something which can stand on its own two feet.

You can buy it direct from developer Aventurine for $39.95, which includes a 30-day subscription. Beyond that, subscription fees are $14.95 per month. It's due to hit various download stores "in the days and weeks to come" too.

If even STAR WARS can't maintain a $15/mo requirement, what makes them think anyone is going to pay for a monthly for this?

Niche MMOs can pull it off. EvE Online does and has a similar hardcore slant.

I had no idea there was another one tbh. I remember hearing abut Darkfall years ago.

Because SWTOR had like 200 servers and wanted 1 million+ subs, while Darkfall had like low 5 digit subs?

The company making it also gets grants from their country's government.
