Bethesda teases next project, isn't Fallout

Bethesda is teasing a new project with a short Vine clip, but has confirmed that it isn't Fallout related.

After announcing plans to "move on," Bethesda Softworks has begun teasing its next project, with an extremely brief teaser. The company posted a short Vine clip today, full of musical imagery and some strobe-like flashes of words on a spinning record.

The clip was tweeted earlier today (via Polygon), and contains flashes of barbed wire and various old records. They appear to be an LP by The Moonbeam Trio, and sheet music by Johann Sebastian Bach. The years for these musical pieces could go back to 1910 and 1717, respectively.

Now, the vintage music may lead you to conclude this is Fallout related, but not so. In response to a mention of Fallout, Pete Hines simply said "Guess again."

It appears to be from the publisher Bethesda Softworks, not the development studio. Which means it could be any number of projects and not necessarily the new Bethesda dev studio project.

Given the date of the music, content of the video, and Shinji_Mikami's survival horror project code-name "Zwei" (German for "two"), I'm going to speculate a survival-horror game set during World War I.

Also, the time period would be about right for some Lovecraftian horror, something that hasn't been done nearly often or well enough.

Dark Corners of the Earth kinda degenerated into a generic shooter part-way through. I really enjoyed the survival-horror portions early-on, though. I'd love to see them really commit to that sort of atmosphere and set of mechanics for a full-blown survival-horror game.

Bethesda Softworks was the publisher too, so maybe they still have whatever license is needed.

I was seriously thinking about The Suffering this morning and then Beth pops up a video with barbed wire.... Coincidence? I think....I think..... I think I need to get back to work.

A new Cthulu would be great, but I'll bet on a new IP.

I'd actually be pleased if BGS's next game isn't Fallout. Not because I dislike Fallout, but because this industry could really use some new IPs and new ideas. Besides, I'm sure we'll get a next-gen Fallout sooner or later.
