Eden Studios, the developer of Test Drive Unlimited and 2006's Alone in the Dark, has officially been closed. This comes as the end of a long closure process that began with layoffs in 2011.

Most of the staff was laid off in the summer of 2011, causing the rest to go on a (largely symbolic) strike and subsequently move on. Atari signaled the studio's closure in May of last year, when it was being prepared for "divestment," but said it hadn't been closed yet.

Eurogamer reports that it was finally closed in January of this year. Its final game, released in 2011, was Test Drive Unlimited 2.

Man, the original Test Drive Unlimited was such a cool game in so many ways. It was one of the first games I had on my 360 (if not the first) and it got me really excited for an exciting new generation of online gaming... which never really happened... Online gaming this past generation ended up being like the 90's of PC gaming. Lots of shooters with people killing each other in DM and Team DM.

      Whelp... maybe next generation!

Sad to see the team go. They did some cool stuff with those games.

Agreed, so much potential. Imagine what they could've done with a proper budget.

I haven't launched TDU2 for a week (its on 1 of my other PCs), anyone know the current status and future plans for TDU2 servers? They were up a week ago and many people were online. I hope Atari keeps the servers running for many years cuz it is such a good game with fun multiplayer action.
