Sega to shut down Medieval 2: Total War studio

Sega's Australian studio, notable for Medieval 2: Total War and London Games 2012, will be shut down later this year.

Sega's Australian studio is reportedly set to shut down sometime later this year. It most recently worked on the London 2012 tie-in game, but was best known for its work on Medieval 2: Total War.

Sega confirmed the closure to Kotaku, simply saying it will be shut down "later this year." It then told Eurogamer that the company is under consultation and can't comment on details of the closure.

The studio was formerly known as Creative Assembly Australia, during its work on the Total War series. The main office of The Creative Assembly is located in the United Kingdom, and responsible for the more recent Total War: Shogun 2 and upcoming Total War: Rome 2.

I didn't know there were two different CA Studios.

IMO I've had the fondest memories with Medieval 2 (but Rome comes really close). I think they took Rome and greatly expanded it. Crusade mechanic was a little weird and inquisitors pissed me off, but all and all I think Medieval 2 was my fav.

M2 was the one i spent the most time with. It was a fantastic game and my favorite after Rome. I also was not aware there were 2 TW studios!

This is horrible news. Sega is shutting down the studio that made the last great Total War Game. Everything since M2:TW has been awful... Empire, napoleon, shogun 2. Pure junk

Shogun 2 wasn't bad. I just had more fun with Medieval 2.

Empire was just too damn broad for its own good.

I have to agree with them ^ that Shogun 2 was pretty awesome. I agree with you that Empire and Napoleon weren't as stellar, but I actually like that they tried the multiple theatres of war thing

It was my favorite. I couldn't give 2 shits about Rome 2, but I would buy TW Medieval 3 in a second.

This studio was almost single-handedly destroyed by one terrible person getting the producer position and being such a horrible fuck-up of a human being that virtually the entire core team quit or were fired over the course of a year or so. The abortion that was Stormrise was the direct result and SEGA stepped in after that and gutted the place.

Terrible that this was allowed to happen, it was a tight-knit and incredibly talented team until that one person was allowed to destroy it.

I wonder if this has anything to do with them acquiring Relic ?
