Deus Ex: Human Defiance revealed as April Fools prank

Today is the annual celebration of deceit and trickery, and we at Shacknews clearly have no time for such shenanigans. But we respect when someone does it well, so we have to tip our hat to Eidos Montreal for accidentally setting up a prank by letting word of trademarks and domain registrations for Deus Ex: Human Defiance leak so far in advance.

The company (ahem) "revealed" the title today with an official site, showing an 8-bit version of the action RPG. The site and teaser video claim that the project has been rejected by Eidos management and marketers, which forced the team to turn to crowd-funding.

The reveal didn't answer a few lingering questions, like why Eidos would have bothered to register a trademark or CBS Films domains in the first place. That question was addressed on its Facebook (via Joystiq), which claimed that the name was registered "on the off-chance it we might need it." When the company decided not to use that title, it was used for this joke instead.
