Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes are two different games

The Metal Gear games are known for being confusing. Apparently, that trait is bleeding out beyond its narrative. Yesterday's reveal of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain suggested that the game was a combination of The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes. However, Konami has confirmed that they are, in fact, two separate games.

"Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain are two separate games," a Konami representative told GameSpot. "Ground Zeroes will actually be a prologue to The Phantom Pain, and that's all we can share at this time."

What form the "prologue" will take is unclear. Will Ground Zeros be a retail title, a downloadable game (a la XBLA, PSN), or something else?

“Can't comment on the SKUs unfortunately," Konami told Siliconera. When asked if the two games will be part of the same package, Boor told the site that he "can't confirm at this time."

Clearly, the puzzle of MGS5 has a long way to go before being deciphered. Our Ozzie attempted to make sense of the game's debut trailer, and you can read his analysis here.
