Nintendo's Miiverse coming to smartphones in May

The Miiverse app for smartphones is coming in April or May, Nintendo said at GDC. The company also promised an impending 3DS version, but didn't give a release window for it.

Nintendo continues to slowly narrow down a release date for its Miiverse smartphone and web app. At the Game Developers Conference, Nintendo's Kiyoshi Mizuki said that the app is coming sometime in April or May, which is just slightly more specific than its previous promise of Spring.

Polygon reports that at first, the app will provide basic functionality like posting comments, doodling, and jumping into game communities. The company is also taking requests from developers on what they might like to see in a Miiverse API.

A 3DS version of the Miiverse app is also in the works, but Nintendo didn't give a target window for it. Mizuki did mention that not every game or app on the 3DS will have Miiverse support.
