It's back now, though. Ubisoft today announced Might & Magic X Legacy and yes, it's still first-person and turn-based.

Might & Magic X will give you a party of four to adventure around with, battling monsters, delving into dungeons, plundering treasure, disarming traps, and all that classic RPG jazz.

The story follows on from events in Might & Magic Heroes VI, from the turn-based strategy side-series previously known as Heroes of Might & Magic. The city of Karthal is in political turmoil, or somesuch, and apparently "Your actions will determine the fate of the city."

The game will be on show at PAX East this weekend, so hopefully we'll learn more. Trailer!

UPlay is kind of annoying but it wouldn't keep me from playing of their games now that it's no longer always-online DRM.

This is what my Uplay experience is like when I launch through steam:

Wait 1 second for uplay to load. Click button. Done. I also keep it in offline mode, I play ALL of my ubi games offline.

Again, lots of hyperbole trash talking on the internet about uplay. Whatever.

Uplay is fine. The internet is just full of ridiculous hyperbole about ubi DRM, I have literally never had one single issue. Undoubtedly pirates trying to justify what they do through any means. It is zero hassle, click once and i'm playing my game.

I think the hate was justified during Ubi's "always-on" phase, SimCity just reminded us of why that's a terrible idea.

But yeah, UPlay and Origin aren't really a big deal. Mildly annoying maybe but nothing that's going to stop me from buying the game.

At least Ubi took steps to correct what their playerbase didn't like. Uplay is fine right now IMHO. I can't say the same for GFWL or SecuROM, both of which I generally steer clear from.

There were problems with it when it first came out, for sure.

But now, it's not bad at all!

Fantastic! I still have my paper maps from Might and Magic 1 and 2... I've missed the series so much. 9 was an abomination, and 8 was pretty boring, but I'm glad that the series is coming back.

I agree that the success of Legend of Grimrock helped Ubisoft decide to bring this back. If they're smart, they'll also bring it to mobile devices - turn-based RPGs are well-suited to mobile usage patterns.

I betcha that's Sheltem at the end... I hope they continue the MM1-5 (and Wizardry 6 - 8) tradition of mixing sci-fi in with the fantasy.

Is this being developed by Limbic Entertainment, developer of such entertainment as Crazy School: Schulverweis! and Gefeuert! Dein letzter Tag?

I do not think I am excited.

This is wholly interesting. In a day where sandboxy RPGs that are heavy on conversation wheels and real time combat reign, I wonder how a traditional game with direct lineage to classics like Bard's Tale present. I played them all up to V, and the first Might and Magic game was the first computer game I ever bought. I played that thing relentlessly in all its CGA glory.

Well apparently Legend of Grimrock did very well, so much so that they're making a sequel. It's not turn-based, but the rest of the elements of games like M&M are there. Though it is meant to be a spiritual successor to Eye of the Beholder.
