"We want to thank the global StarCraft community for the incredible passion and support they've shown for Heart of the Swarm," Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, said in a release. "In addition to a brand-new single-player campaign, we added a ton of enhancements with this expansion to make StarCraft II even more fun to play, and more exciting to watch. We're pleased to see gamers and eSports fans around the world enjoying Heart of the Swarm."

Of course, Blizzard is no stranger to big sellers. Just last year, Diablo 3 sold 3.5 million copies within 24 hours of its release in May, and World of WarCraft: Mists of Pandaria sold 2.7 million within the first week of it hitting shelves in September.

Hour hours, not Valve hours or Blizzard hours.

What did Sim City sell in the same time frame? EA needs to sit back and learn a thing or two from Blizzard.

Congrats to Blizz for SC2! I'll be picking mine up at Target for their buy 2 get 1 free deal. :D

So an expansion that requires the base game to play sells what SinCity5 sold in 2 weeks, in 2 days. Nice job, SimCity 5.

Yeah, it's a $40 expansion. They probably could have made it standalone but from the start when they said they weren't including Zerg and Protoss campaigns in base Starcraft 2, they said those would be expansion priced and require the first game.

You rock Activision-Blizzard.... what other games company can constantly say at every release they have that they sold over a million copies in just a few hours? Still, the faster you climb--the harder you fall.

Tip> For those who love Starcraft like me but don't have the time or desire to actually play it, you can watch all the mission play through along with in-game cut scenes / story-lines on HuskyStarcraft on Youtube.
