It took more than two years for Mac gamers to get the original BioShock on their OS X machines. However, the wait for BioShock Infinite will be considerably shorter. The Mac-porting wizards at Aspyr Media have announced that Infinite will be available this summer.

"We are incredibly excited to bring the latest version of BioShock, one of the industry's most critically acclaimed and beloved franchises, to the Mac," Aspyr president Michael Rogers said in the press release.

No additional details have been released regarding the Mac version of Infinite. However, scanning the PC requirements should give you a pretty good idea on if the Unreal Engine-powered game will run on your machine.

The other night I was in Fry's and I saw the shelf of Mac games. While it's a very tiny fraction of the PC games section (part of which is likely to do with so many mainstream Macs lacking an optical drive and the move to the App Store) I was kinda impressed how many recent, high profile games are on there. Like the latest Call of Duty and Deus Ex games.

It's sad to say that outside of Nintendo third party titles, the Mac looks like a better gaming option than the Wii U at this point.

The problem with Mac gaming is that even if every game was released for Mac simultaneously with the Windows version, it still wouldn't be as good because OSX is tied to Apple's hardware, which is not really designed with hardcore gaming in mind.

It's better than it used to be, but it's not a credible alternative to serious PC gaming yet. That's really what keeps me tied to Windows.

Hopefully since they can't use a lot of the direct x calls that make it possible to do higher end graphical stuff on the XBox possible with such an old video card, they will end up doing a lot of stuff in OpenGl and allow some of us with older machines to get in on the action.
