With StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm scheduled to roll out March 12, Blizzard is already well into development of the scripts, story and missions for the Protoss-focused expansion Legacy of the Void, according to Game Director Dustin Browder.

In a recent Reddit AMA, Browder said that he hopes the time between Heart of the Swarm's release and the completion of Legacy will not be as long as it was between Wings of Liberty and HotS. "But efficient and quick game development is not something we have traditionally been great at. We will certainly do our best to reduce the time between expansions."

The campaign team for HotS has already transitioned over to Legacy, he said, but a few artists have shifted over to work on Blizzard All-Stars.

Alan Dabiri, lead software engineer, said that the team is working hard to make sure that the Heart of the Swarm does not experience the same online server issues that plagued Diablo 3. "We've learned a lot from our previous launches, including the Wings of Liberty launch, and we're doing everything we can to make sure this launch goes as smoothly as possible. We have the advantage that we've been building on an existing platform that's been evolving for several years."

Take as long as you like, Blizz. As long as the final product is good.

I play and enjoy Terran and Protoss campaigns in SC1 - but I genuinely dislike playing Zerg, so this campaign is very welcome.

Well I think it's pretty cool but then again I'm biased (I am a programmer on the game). The core gameplay is classic RTS and a nice evolution of the original C&C:Generals if you played that.

Oh look! A shameless plug! Go tell the overlords that Command & Conquer 4 cinched it for most C&C fans.

I wish you guys luck. You have an amazing IP in your hands and I hope your team does it justice.

I'm very uncomfortable with the delivery mechanism for that game. Having said that I also said I'd never pay a monthly fee to play a game and I've been playing WoW since launch.

How about Planetary Annihilation? It's definitely a larger scale RTS though.

I loved CoH1, but I am super-dreading that game. Relic isn't the same company it was in CoH-days.

Same. CoH was so good but the expansions got progressively worse, and the downward trend continued with DOW2 and its expansions.
