A Bird Story revealed as To the Moon side-story

To the Moon won ladles of praise with its touching story; we ourselves called it "one of the most memorable" in recent memory. Now, more's coming. Developer Freebird Games today revealed A Bird Story, a side-story of sorts starring a boy who'll grow up to be the patient in To the Moon's actual sequel.

Freebird describes it as "a simple, surreal short about a boy and a bird with a broken wing" in adventure game format. It'll shake up memory, dream and imagination to make something that we expect may cause dust to spontaneously materialise in our eye no that's all it is, it is dust, okay?

"I know that for some who have played To the Moon, there might be certain expectations as to how the 'next game' should be. And to be honest, I don't really know how it'll be in that regard - meeting certain quota or matching aspects of another game aren't really things that I want to make them around," Freebird head honcho Kan Gao said.

"However, what I can promise is that I'll always be making what truly means something to me - and hopefully, to you too."

To the Moon, if you missed it, was about fulfilling the dream of a dying patient by diving into his memories, changing them to make his wish come true: to go to the moon.

A Bird Story is broadly slated to launch around the middle of 2013. Here's a peek at the title screen, which is more an excuse to hear its title theme:
