Indie developer Almost Human did incredibly well with its first title, old-school dungeon crawler Legend of Grimrock, when it launched earlier this year. Now, the company has decided to skip the traditional DLC route and give the game a sequel.

The company had teased a new project on the official blog, but had been a bit nebulous on what it would be. "Internally we have talked about the project being a DLC for Grimrock. But creating a DLC for Grimrock doesn’t really ring true to us," it said in an updated post today. "A DLC would have limited too much what we can do. With a full blown sequel we can raise Grimrock to the next level."

The company offered no details on what the sequel will entail, but has promised more regular updates as the development of the game gets further along.

I wonder if they'll go turn based in the sequel, or how much they will change at all.

I'm gonna be the first to say that I think coop would be awesome.

I've played these games to death while growing up, and one thing I don't think we've seen yet is a coop variant of this style.

Love the first one, will definitely pick up the second.

I don't know how well that would look.

Remember what you effectively are is a conjoined quadruplet mushed in one tile. You'd have to change the way things are a bit for this to work. Basically play as 1 character instead of a party. Which is actually fine IMHO.

Bloodwych did it. You could play it co-operatively or competitively from what I recall. Excellent game too.

From the screenshots they released before, it looked like more of the same but in different environments. But that was back when it was just an expansion.

I'm hoping for exterior areas support with wide open spaces (think Ravenloft: Strahd's Possession), different altitudes, etc. I'm also hoping for revised magi system, the part i liked least about in the game.

And a personal longshot favorite, a editor + grand master client for anyone wishing to recreate pen & paper rpg with friends.

Yeah, with outdoor areas and a bit more story, they could start to move into Might and Magic territory which would be AWESOME! Might and Magic with that engine gets me all excited.

don't know how that would work with the current grid system. outdoor tilesets were pretty ugly looking back in the day.

I'm sure it can be done. Outdoor environment might not look 100% open and natural like Skyrim or something, but if they are done well it will look good enough.

loved the original but I hope combat is a little deeper. The circle strafing mechanic felt kinda cheezy
