The Witcher 3 riding onto PlayStation 4

You may have CD Projekt Red's logo pop up in Sony's big list of third-party developers at the PlayStation 4 announcement and guessed, and it was hardly a secret anyway, but now it's properly confirmed: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is indeed coming to PlayStation 4. The splendid series started on PC then spread to Xbox 360 with the sequel, but this is the first time the gritty RPG will be on any PlayStation.

The Witcher 3 tosses Geralt into an open world said to be thirty times larger than The Witcher 2's, with horses to ride, boats to sail, and, of course, monsters to hunt for fun and profit. It'll conclude the story of Geralt that's spread across two games so far, of how he lost his memory and his love to the ghostly Wild Hunt.

"The new hardware gives us the opportunity to create something great," CD Projekt RED head Adam Badowski said in today's announcement. "We are able to work with the new console from its birth and this allows our in-house REDengine 3 to push the graphical limits of what the PlayStation hardware can display. The console is fresh and has some innovative solutions that we're looking forward to using in our game."

RED says it'll release The Witcher 3 in 2014 "simultaneously on all high-end platforms available," so expect another announcement when Microsoft unveils its own new console.

From a development pov the ps4 is just a PC with a custom os as the x360 will be so it wont be that hard to make good ports anymore

I'd love to see CDPR release a trilogy pack for PS4, similar to BioWare's Mass Effect Trilogy bundle. Console games missed out on the excellent original game, and there's something appealing about being able to play every entry in a series on a single platform.

Slim to none, for sure. I think it would require too much work to port the first game, to be worth it. The main combat mechanic was based around timed clicks on enemies (I personally found it a very satisfying system).

The first game is almost free in any given pc sale anyways.

Oh, I doubt it will happen. I'm just saying it would be awesome.

This game sounds badass. I wonder if its going to be more open like Skyrim.
