Final Fantasy X HD video shows off Vita's remastered graphics

Remember the Final Fantasy X HD remake? Square Enix has finally shown off footage from the game, running on a Vita.

Back in 2011, Square Enix announced an HD remake of Final Fantasy X. And then, it disappeared.

Lo and behold, Square Enix has decided to remind the world that the game still exists at a recent Vita-focused press conference. Square Enix's Shinji Hashimoto showed off the game running on a Vita, whilst apologizing for the game's lengthy disappearance. According to Polygon, the game is expected to release in Japan "soon." (Whatever that means to Square Enix.)

Although the upcoming PS3/Vita game is simply a "remaster," and not a remake, Square Enix promised "much more beautiful" visuals than before. Take a look at this screenshot from the original PS2 game and then compare it to this newly released video:

It was a Vita-focused event. I'm sure the PS3 version is still in the works.

That's how I remember FFX looked in the first place. These videos are useless without before/after comparisons.

Whoa, you have a pretty nostalgic memory, then. The game didn't age so well, in my opinion. These new out of cutscene character models look great. The old ones were... really not that nicelooking, even when the game first came out. Every character's out of cutscene model looked stiff and lifeless. If those are the out of cutscene character models that will be used in the remaster, they look almost as good as the old in cutscene character models.

No, when the game came out, those models looked pretty damn good. Compare it to other games from 2001.

a gem from the youtube translation captions: "Wherever you become evil to enjoy high-definition video on this issue". Thank you very much Sqaure Enix, but where I become evil to enjoy high definition video is none of your busines.

I'd love to see some kind of savegame import for this kind of release. Even in terms of a relative checkpoint or something.

It would be cool to *finish* the game in HD (if you're like me and never got around to it), or to play it in a 'new game+' fashion =]
