Infinity Blade: Dungeons, the third game in Epic's popular iOS franchise, is being put "on hold," as its developer--Impossible Studios--is being closed. Impossible was made up of former members of Big Huge Games, which shut down after the collapse of Big Huge Games last year. "Epic Games has truly embraced this stellar collection of developers who were displaced by the closing of Big Huge Games," said Impossible studio director Sean Dunn said in August. "They have looked after us with complete care, giving us all the tools and resources we need to make a lot of gamers happy."

Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney said that their partnership was ultimately not "working out for Epic," and that the studio would be closed. "In addition to providing Impossible Studios employees with 3 months of severance pay, we'll be giving the team the opportunity to form a new company with the Impossible Studios name and the awesome Impossibear logo," Sweeney added.

Ouch. Those developers cannot get a break. But on the other hand, maybe they weren't performing to Epic's expectations...?

I think all the Infinity Blade games had great ROI? Better than stuff like Shadow Complex. Is Epic that unhappy with the opportunity cost?

Gears: Judgment releases March 19th; other than that, Epic's direction as a studio is unclear. There hasn't been any news on Fortnite since July 2012, and Infinity Blade Dungeons just got canned.

yeah I just thought they'd previously talked about how well Infinity Blade had done for them.

I'm sure much of the lack of news is related to the next gen transition. They're surely working really hard on UE4 or whatever plus a showcase title like Gears 1 was.

Fortnite is their UE4 showcase title. Maybe they're maintaining radio silence until an E3 marketing extravaganza, but seeing how the last time they said anything about the game was last July, that's a bad PR plan, that may speak to the reorganization they've had to do with Cliff Bleszinski being their "public face", and then leaving the company.

isn't Fortnite still PC focused? They'll need a console presence

No this is the studio formally known as Big Huge Games who was part of the 38 Studios collapse.
