OUYA officially launching in June
by Steve Watts, Feb 05, 2013 9:30am PSTOUYA, the Android-based gaming console, has set a consumer launch window for June 2013. The developer console has already been available since December, and the company has taken that feedback to make a few changes. The console will cost $100, and extra controllers will cost $50.
The Shop OUYA site (via Joystiq) links to various retail partners like Amazon and Best Buy, which are now taking pre-orders for the system. Company CEO Julie Uhrman told the Wall Street Journal that backers of the Kickstarter will get their consoles in March, and pre-orders will go out in April. June is considered the official launch, even though by that point two waves of consoles will have gone out.
"We don't need to beat Xbox or Sony or any console that enters the marketplace," Uhrman said. "We need to carve out our own niche." At the same time, when asked how she feels about the possibility of Apple releasing a controller for its Apple TV, she said, "We are okay with that. One of the promises of being open is you can use what we build for other things. But you can create accessories and peripherals for our device as well. At the end of the day, it makes our ecosystem richer."

Getting back to exclusives. Do you think nVida could create a better offering than Nintendo and Sony? Not even counting the in house stuff these guys have. What new IP is a publisher going to risk on shield? New untested hardware in the handheld space. I just don't see it.
I'm telling you. The fist sign of trouble and NV is going to be looking to sell Shield off to the highest bidder. That's just how NV and their share holders operate, and that's what their track record shows.
I've still got more faith in Ouya for two reasons. The hardware is pretty cheap, and (assuming it's not vaporware) come June there's going to be some 50,00 people who have already bought into the device. Admittedly a device that's probably not going to receive a lot of attention once new consoles see the light of day.
