Jumping to the Gamecube, Nintendo seemed to stay more or less in place while the rest of the industry moved on without them. Nintendo was no longer where you went to see games that defined their generation. That isn't to say that they didn't release fun games... they certainly did. But ever since then I feel like Nintendo is happy to play in their own little corner of the industry while Microsoft and Sony blaze all the new trails.
Some would argue that Nintendo blazed a trail of their own with the Wii, but I would argue that the Wii was an evolutionary detour on the path of videogame development. It was a flash in the pan that briefly appealed to a much wider audience, but did very little to actually grow or mature game creation and development. The fact that the Wii's popularity vanished as quickly as it appeared is proof of that.
So for me, I do want to shake Nintendo. I see one clumsy hardware launch after another, with first party rehash after rehash. To be clear, I do feel that a Nintendo rehash is still better than 90% of the games out there, but they are not as good as they should be.
